da piccolo sono stato appassionato di navi: viaggiando spesso in estate tra
Italia e Grecia, vivendo in un ambiente ove si lavorava con le compagnie
marittime, la nascita di questo interesse era inevitabile, o quasi. Già da
piccolo imparavo a memoria le flotte delle compagnie, le caratteristiche
delle navi, familiarizzavo con le loro immagini pubblicizzate nei depliant. In quegli anni, il panorama marittimo era molto
più variegato di quello di oggi, le flotte molto più eterogenee, i “fuori
programma” delle compagnie, rispetto ai programmi annunciati, molto più
comuni. Questi furono i motivi per cui, per la prima volta ad Heraklion nel 1991 decisi di cominciare a fotografare le
navi. Purtroppo, allora, non avanzarono abbastanza scatti nel rullino,
destinato a contenere le foto della vacanza della mia famiglia, e così persi
l’opportunità di ritrarre l’EL GRECO, che non ho mai più visto, la CROWN M,
che mi colpì con quel fumaiolo così particolare, e tante altre navi. Solo nel
1993, finalmente in possesso di una macchina mia, ho potuto cominciare col
primo scatto di una lunga collezione, ritraente la CROWN M ad Ancona, un
venerdì, prima della sua partenza per Igoumenitsa,
Patrasso, Heraklion, Rodi e Limassol. Qua troverete
alcuni tra i miei 11.000 scatti, non necessariamente i più belli, quanto i
più significativi. |
I
was a shiplover since I was a child: this was
inevitable, travelling every year by ship between Italy and Greece, and
living in a family which was involved with ship companies. Since then I
started to learn all the companies fleets, the ships features and characteristics, their
images on advertising sheets. These years, the ferry scene was variegated, with
very heterogeneous fleets and often affected by last-moment changes in
timetables and routes. For these reasons, I decided to start taking pictures
of ships during an holiday at Heraklion, in 1991:
unfortunately, these were the times of 24/36-photos films, and after the
photos taken by my family during the trip, there were no more space for
ferries, including the EL GRECO, which I never had the chance to photograph
her anymore, the CROWN M, which astonished me with her particularly-shaped
funnel, and many more vessels. Only in 1993, when I got finally a camera, I
started taking pictures, the first one of my 11.000 shots collection being
the CROWN M, during a Friday afternoon in Ancona,
awaiting her departure to Igoumenitsa, Patras, Heraklion, Rhodes and
Limassol. Here you’ll find some of these 11.000 shots: not the best taken,
but the most significant ones. |
