The “AF Claudia Prima” was born in Japan in 1973, first of four sister vessels, which were far similar to another class of two former ships built at the same yard, the Hayashikane of Shimonoseki, an hystorical site of Japanese shipbuilding industry. Her career in Japan lasts sixteen years, and sixteen years is also her Greek spell of life, entirely under Minoan Lines’s colours, even if the ferry was deployed only in 1991, after two years of refit which transformed her in one of the most interesting Greek cruise-ferries. For a short spell the ferry was also owned by Minoan Flying Dolphins, even if only for financial reasons; in fact the ferry was continuously operated by Minoan Lines. Employed with great success on domestic routes on her last Minoan period, the notice of her sale to Adria Ferries in May 2005 was far surprisingly, and her final delivery was on October 28th. After having spent eleven years under the name “Riviera Adriatica”, mainly serving Bari – Durres line, on January 2012 the ferry was introduced into the Italian Shipping Registry, under the new name “AF Claudia Prima”; her main service remained anyway the Bari – Durres line, where, since 2012, is part of a two-ferry service, having the former “Domiziana”, now named “AF Francesca” as fleet-mate. In 2012, the “AF Claudia Prima” founds as competitor the “Lato” of Anek Lines, which was an opponent also during her Minoan Lines days operating from Greece to Ancona. After four seasons of service under that name mainly on Bari – Durres line, during Spring 2016 was sold to foreign interests, renamed “Caribbean Galaxy” and repainted with a new livery, displaying the colours of a new company named Atlantic Blue Seaways. Original plans were probably for a deployment of the vessel between Cartagena, Colombia, and Panama, but in early May 2016 Grimaldi Lines announced the charter of the “Caribbean Galaxy” for the Leghorn – Barcelona – Tangier line on Summer. Later, anyway the company announced that the ferry was lacking the required certificates, so the charter won’t happen. Initially waiting to start these services in Lavrion anchorage, the “Caribbean Galaxy” moved then to Perama, where she awaited her last sailing to Aliaga, in December 2018.
