Launched in 1999, is the third vessels
ordered by Seacontainers to Fincantieri’s
Riva Trigoso yard. Initially deployed on various
routes from Britain as the “Superseacat Three”, was
moved to Baltic sea in 2003, working on Helsinki – Tallinn line; in 2008 the “Superseacat Three”, together with her sister, was sold to
Aegean Speed Lines, but surprisingly she maintained the original name, the
original livery, except for the company mark on the funnel, and the designed
2008 Summer timetable between Helsinki and Tallinn. At the end of 2008 Summer
season was moved to Gdansk, where she spent her winter lay-up; finally
repainted in Aegean Speed Lines colours, renamed “Speedrunner
III” and reflagged to Greece on June 4th, 2009, started her trip to
Greece only 20 days later due to some paperwork problems, arriving at Piraeus
six days later. The designed Greek route Piraeus – Syros – Tinos – Mykonos was
inaugurated on July 7th, and confirmed also
for 2010 season; during the peak period she will alternate morning departures
from Piraeus to Syros, Tinos and Mykonos with evening departures from Piraeus
to Paros and Naxos, with a slightly modified livery. The usual Cyclades
service, confirmed for 2011, is replaced between April 27th and June
21st, by a new service linking Heraklion and Santorini. Laid up for
the entire 2012 due to the economic downturn which affected Greece, in 2013 and
2014 was employed on the main service of the company, the connection to Western
Cyclades from Piraeus. Chartered out for the following two Summer seasons, in
2015 to the Moroccan Navline for Algeciras – Tanger line, and in 2016 to Levante Ferries, linking Patras
with Cephalonia and Ithaca, calling at Sami and Pisaetos.
That service was rumoured to last for long time, but in 2017, after her sister “Speedrunner IV” was sold, was redeployed on company’s main
service from Piraeus to Serifos, Sifnos
and Milos.
