Built in Greece in 1971, she maintained her
original name until 1977 and sailed under the name “Dodekanissos”
between 1977 and 1985. I wasn’t able to rebuild the history of the ferry from
her launch till 1985, both regarding her owners and her services; anyway it
seems that the ferry was owned by Agapitos family as the “Dodekanissos”.
Surely she entered the Agapitos fleet in 1985 as the “Corfu
Sea”, deployed on Brindisi – Corfu
– Igoumenitsa – Patras
line. She stayed on that service until 1990, having for 1987 and 1988 seasons
the bigger “Corfu Diamond” as running mate; in 1990 the Brindisi
– Corfu – Igoumenitsa – Patras
line was shortened to the most brief crossing Corfu – Igoumenitsa,
performed until 1995, being the only conventional ferry on a market which saw
the “landing crafts” as the main ferries on the line. The ferry was sold in
1996 to DD Ferries; in my opinion this move is due to the increased competition
between Corfu and Igoumenitsa after the introduction
of “Agios Spiridon” and “Pantokrator”, and the strong growth of Agapitos Lines in
Aegean Sea after the purchase of “Dimitra” in 1995
and the purchases of “Kriti” and “Apollo Express 2” in 1996. The ferry as the
“Express Karistos” linked under DD Ferries’s livery the port of Rafina
with Evia islands ports (Marmari
and Karistos) until 2003, when she was laid up until
her sale for scrap, as “Karistos”, occurred in 2004.
