Confiscated and laid up at Piraeus harbour ; due to be auctioned soon.

The latest acquisition of Dodecanese-based Dane Sea Line, her name is that of Lindos town, a beautiful centre on south-east coast of Rhodes island, and this name was already used for a Ro/Ro purchased in 1985. She arrived in Greece in October 2000 after 10 years of service in Japan as “New Tosa”, the, after the refit, entered services on 16/09/01 with the name “Diagoras”, chosen by Anek Board. On winter 2002 she served also ANEK connections to Heraklion. After the financial difficulties at the end of 1990’s years, on Summer 2004 Dane Sea Line has again big problems and the “Diagoras” remained the only ferry serving the Dodecanese after the mechanical troubles of her fleet-mates “Patmos” and “Rodos”; however her services ceased at the end of September 2004, when the ship was arrested due to the unpaid contributions to the Greek Seafarers Provisional Fund and was stated to auction her. The auction took place on 13th October 2004, but no one made any offer, even if there were strong rumours of an interest of Attica Enterprises, owner of Superfast Ferries and Blue Star Ferries, in buying this ferry, offering around 15 million Dollars. By the way, this seem very strange, because Attica is actually modernizing their fleet, selling the old conventional ferries, so is difficult to understand why they want to buy a 23-knot ferry when they are actually managing ferries capable of 25/26 knots: let’s see. However, I must underline my big regret for the end of an hystorical Aegean company: these are the bad effects of globalization…
