The “Rokko Maru” was built at Shin Kurushima yars of Akitsu, Japan, in 1990: the owner Kansai Kisen, which named the ferry after the Mount Rokko, near Kobe city, deployed her between Kobe and Takamatsu, on the North-Eastern part of Shikoku island, crossing the Inland Sea. After nine years in Japan, the “Rokko Maru” was bought in 1999 by Fast Ferries, a company belonging to the Corfu-based shipowner Panagiotakis. When deployed to service, was the biggest and the fastest ferry serving the Corfu – Igoumenitsa line, obviously excluding the vessels of Greece – Italy trade. This is not the only new fact introduced on the line: the ferry was heavily rebuilt both internally and externally with high standards; her external look was changed, even if some of her main features were maintained, such as her “landing craft style” bow ramp, very useful on a port-to-port service like the Corfu – Igoumenitsa one, although never used. At stern instead the ferry has two ramps, one to the main garage and one to the upper level, dedicated to the cars. Note also that the starboard-side dummy funnel. Even after the arrival of the “Theologos P” remains the main ferry of Corfu service.
