Apart of the smaller “Aethalia” of Navigazione Toscana, the “Appia” was the first Italian roll-on/roll-of ferry. Launched on 25/09/1960 for Adriatica, was delivered in 1961, deployed on BrindisiCorfu – Igoumenitsa – Patras service sailing on alternate days with the “Egnatia” of Hellenic Mediterranean Lines. She remained on this line for almost all her life, even after the “divorce” from Hellenic Mediterranean Lines, until 1992, apart a short spell serving the Italian troops in Lebanon in 1982; was then sold to India and renamed “Fibi”, sailing around India until 1995, when she was sold for scrap at her 34 year of life.
