The “Corriere del Sud” is part of a four-ro/ro serie composed by three sister vessels and one similar, built by Luigi Orlando yards of Leghorn for Traghetti del Mediterraneo. Launched as “Espresso Calabria”, was transferred by the owner to the newly-established company Traghetti dell’Adriatico, named as “Corriere del Sud”, operating from Trieste to Piraeus, Benghazi, Tripolis, Genoa and Marseille. After a short time, the ferry was first chartered, then sold to Adriatica Navigazione, being employed from Trieste and Venice (Marghera) to Piraeus, Famagusta, Lattakia, Mersin, Izmir. The ship was subsequently sold to Linee Canguro in 1978, maintaining her name, then I’ve not many notices of her, apart that she sank on December 11th, 1988 in Mediterranean Sea, probably enroute to Benghazi, Libya.
