The “Corriere del Sud” is part of a four-ro/ro serie composed by three sister
vessels and one similar, built by Luigi Orlando yards of Leghorn for Traghetti del Mediterraneo. Launched as “Espresso
Calabria”, was transferred by the owner to the
newly-established company Traghetti dell’Adriatico, named as “Corriere
del Sud”, operating from Trieste to Piraeus,
Benghazi, Tripolis, Genoa and Marseille. After a
short time, the ferry was first chartered, then sold
to Adriatica Navigazione,
being employed from
