“THE SCHOOL REPORT”

Always in our past years we remember a characteristical thing of our school: the report!!! So I decided to try giving a mark to the ferry companies, considering the former year of service, the 2004; sine this report the marks will be reviewed every six months, considering the new facts and the prospective. Hope that you would like this new section!

IMPORTANT: THE PRESENT MARKS ARE BASED ON OBJECTIVE FACTS, BUT ALSO ON PERSONAL OPINIONS; THEY AREN’T A QUALITY VALUE BECAUSE I’VE NOT THE NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE TO VALUE A FERRY SERVICE.

Notes

Adria Ferries

6

(5,5)

On August there were daily departures obtained by chartering the “Toscana”. This is good, but it could be improved.

Aegean Speed Lines

8

(8)

A good service offered by two modern and punctual HSC vessels.

Agoudimos Lines

8

(8)

A new arrival in the fleet: the “Ionian Spirit”, which should enforce the presence of the company between Italy and Albania. And probably we should also expect something else

Anek Lines

5

(3)

The “Chania War” brought the “Olympic Champion” on Piraeus route, being replaced on international services by the chartered “Jean Nicoli”, ending service on Ancona Patras on November. Too many are the doubts over the next developments of Chania company, both over the delivery of the new “Elyros” and the moves of Grimaldi Naples group.

Blue Star Ferries

8

(8)

A punctual and reliable service for both known destinations and smaller islands. And probably we should expect something new

Endeavor Lines

7

(7)

They remain the sole operator between Brindisi and Patras.

European Seaways

6

(6)

The 2007 season ended with a positive balance; probably for 2008 the “Apollon” would be joined by the “Ionis”.

Fast Ferries

6,5

(6,5)

The company did well on its service out of Rafina; there are strong rumours about new developments.

G.A. Ferries

3

(3)

During the winter the services are drastically reduced. And it doesn’t seem that they’ll increase more than the usual on Summer 2008.

Hellenic Seaways

7

(7)

The delay on the delivery of “Ariadne” forced the company to cut some services; anyway they’re far strong on both Ikaria Samos, Chios Mytilene and Chania routes.

Jadrolinija

6,5

(6,5)

As always, the same service, waiting for some new facts. What we should add to these words?

Kallisti Ferries

8

(6)

The “Corsica Express Three” had a good success out of Piraeus, and the “Sardinia Vera” came to Piraeus to perform the winter itineraries. Anyway also another vessel is expected to increase the “yellow lines” in the Aegean on Summer 2008.

Lane Lines

6

(6)

The two-ferries service seems to be only a memory.

Marlines

4

(4)

Nothing new: the “Duchess M” on her classic Bari Durres line.

Minoan Lines

5

(5)

Being not capable to cover its reduced services, the company is chartering the “Ariadne” for three months on winter.

Nel Lines

5,5

(5,5)

The news of the Lesvos-based company are a blue-painted hull for the “Mytilene”, “Taxiarchis” and “Theofilos”. But in my opinion the company needed something else.

Saos Ferries

6

(6)

The “work in progress” in SAOS fleet goes on; moreover some new tonnage is expected to come from Japan, plus of those acquired locally. May they be the biggest Greek fleet?

Sem Maritime Co. - Blue Line

4,5

(4,5)

The company does very well between Ancona and Croatia, having pilgrims to the Holy place of Medjugorje  as their main travellers. But I think that they should find something to replace the “Split 1700”.

Strintzis Ferries

7,5

(7,5)

Two ferries serving Cephalonia.

Superfast Ferries

5

(5)

During the winter, the evening departure between Ancona and Patras is cancelled; moreover the recent changes over the main stake of the company are leaving the public with some doubts. What a pity

Tirrenia divisione Adriatica

3

(3)

Even if a “Nuove Strade” ferry is linking Bari and Durres, many things seems improvable, as it was shown by a recent press service.

Ventouris Ferries

4,5

(3,5)

After some years, a new ferry is being repainted on Ventouris colours: the “Rigel”, which should start soon linking Bari and Durres.

Ventouris Sea Lines

6

(6)

The company is on the focus due to the possible addition of a second ship in the fleet.
